Red Pumpkin

Pumpkin (लाल भोपळा) is a member of the Cucurbita family and an excellent source of carotene. It comes in a number of varieties, each with its own shape, size, colour and flavour. While buying it, check it carefully since the vegetable is prone to decay. It should be firm and seem heavy for it's size.Make sure that the skin is dull and not shiny since the later indicates a tasteless flesh.

The fruit is consumed in entirety and is widely used during fasts since it is light and delicious.
The flesh is used in a number of recipes like this Red Pumpkin Kheer.
The seeds are an excellent source of Vitamin B,protein, minerals and fibre.
The skin has antibacterial properties and can be used to make this delicious Red Pumpkin Chutney.
The vegetable is very easy to digest and versatile. It is an ideal candidate for weight loss,as it is low in calories and high in fibre, while providing proteins and minerals, when consumed entirely!
